about
Two of Chapter Music's brightest stars join forces for a one-off single - the latest release for RISING: SINGLES CLUB, a monthly series of celestial space jams, specially commissioned by RISING - Melbourne’s new festival of the night.
Sweet Whirl and Gregor are already musically entwined. Gregor sang backing vocals on Sweet Whirl's much loved 2020 album How Much Works, and has played in the Sweet Whirl live band on many occasions. Now the two artists have collaborated even more closely, conjuring up an arresting rework of Creedence Clearwater Revival's Have You Ever Seen the Rain.
Emerging in May 2020, Sweet Whirl's How Much Works was the poised arrival of a true songwriting force - warm and assured and intimate. Gregor's second album Destiny, a prog-pop epic part way between The Dark Side of the Moon and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, came out in November 2020.
Their version of Have You Ever Seen the Rain is a radical, dancefloor-ready earworm, so different but eerily in sync with the 1970 original that you have to keep listening to calibrate the two versions in your brain. Somehow the track is both quintessentially Sweet Whirl and quintessentially Gregor, exuding the ineffable personality and charisma of both.
